Welcome to St. Jude Parish website.   St. Jude Parish is also known as St. Jude Catholic Community in the Catholic Diocese of Orlando, Florida.

ST. JUDE MISSION STATEMENT

To know God, to love Him, to serve Him.   St. Jude Catholic Community is a place where God’s presence is made visible through spiritual formation, community life, service and stewardship.

HISTORY

JUDE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY, 443 MARION OAKS DRIVE, MARION OAKS (OCALA), FLORIDA

Marion Oaks was developed by Deltona Corporation and opened in 1973. Catholics in the community had to travel to St. Theresa in Belleview or Blessed Trinity in Ocala. There was also a retired priest, Fr. Bonamo, who celebrated Mass in his garage. This was attended by some.

1981-April 1                  Rev. Vernon F. Uhran (pastor of St. Theresa) obtained a designated church

site on Marion Oaks Drive (formerly SW 42nd Ave. Rd.) from Deltona Corp. Site is 5.7 acres.

1981-September 23       First meeting of Catholic families at the old Community Center.

1981-October 15           First meeting of Core Building Committee.

1982-January 9             Building Fund Drive begins.

1982-April 11                Groundbreaking by Fr. Uhran following Easter Sunday Mass which

was held on the Country Club grounds.

1982-October 27           Contract to build multi-purpose building awarded. Architect was Edward

D’Avi & Co. Contractor was Cullison & Wright. Both of Ocala.

1983-August 21            Bishop Thomas J. Grady celebrated the first Mass in the new building and also blessed it. St. Jude Catholic Community became a mission of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Belleview under the leadership of Rev. James MacLoughlin. Fr. MacLoughlin celebrated one Mass per week on Saturday at 7:30 PM. Eucharistic Prayer Service held every Monday at 8:00 AM.

1985-December 8         St. Jude was established as a parish by Bishop Thomas J. Grady.

1985-December 26        Rev. Domingo N. Gonzalez was appointed Administrator. Masses celebrated Saturday 5:30 PM, Sunday 9:00 AM.

1986 –                           CCD Program started.

1987-April 24                Rev. Domingo N. Gonzalez was appointed Pastor. Spanish Mass at Noon added.

1988-February 20          Santos Santiago ordained as Deacon for our parish.

1989-May 13                 Rev. Gonzalez transferred to St. Ann in Haines City.

1989-May 13                 Rev. Edmund S. Czarnecki appointed as second Pastor.

Masses now Saturday 5:00 PM, Sunday 8:00 & 10:30AM and Noon.

1989-October 23           St. Jude Thrift Shop opens in Freeman Plaza on CR 484.

1990-April                     Rectory purchased on Marion Oaks Drive through the generosity of a deceased parishioner, Raymond Griswold.

1991-March 11              Bingo began on Mondays at 1:00 PM at old Community Center.

1991                             Parish Council determined need for a parish hall w/classrooms.

Town meetings held to determine design, etc.

1991-September 22       Building Campaign “Kick-Off” wine & cheese party w/Bishop Grady.

1991-October 1             Bingo now held in multi-purpose building.

1991-November 3         House to house fund drive begins.  “Tree of Life” installed to commemorate those donating $2000.

1992-August 2              Bishop Norbert M. Dorsey, C.P. celebrates Noon Mass and then presides at groundbreaking ceremonies. Reception for approximately 300 follows.

1992-September 1         Bids opened. Contractor is Emmett Sapp Builders of Fruitland Park.

Architect is Rick Swisher.

1992-September 13       Masses now Saturday 5:00 PM, Sunday 8:00 & 9:30 AM, Noon.

1992-November 16        Construction actually begins.

1993-May 29                 Pews installed in multi-purpose building.

1993-June 11                Stained glass windows installed in sanctuary.

1993-June 12                Building blessed by Bishop Norbert M. Dorsey after 5:00 PM Confirmation Mass. Catered reception for approx. 300 follows.

1993-July 1                   Rev. Czarnecki transferred to Blessed Sacrament in Cocoa.

1993-July 1                   Rev. Anthony Palmese becomes our third Pastor.

1993-August 4              Certificate of Occupancy received for Parish Center.

1993-September 8         Stained glass windows installed in church and in St. Jude Shrine area.

1993-September 11       Bishop Thomas J. Grady celebrates 5:00 PM Mass. Blesses Christ & Children of World plaque. Dinner/dance for approx. 300 follows.

1997-August 1              Mass Schedule: Saturday 5:00 PM, Sunday 8:00 & 10:00 AM, Noon.

1997-August                 CCD Schedule Sunday 8:45AM to 9:50 AM

1998-August 1              Mass Schedule: Saturday 4:00 PM, Sunday 8:00 & 10:00 AM, Noon.

1998-August 16            CCD Schedule Sunday 10:50 AM to 11:50 AM.

2002-August                 New lighting installed in church, carpets removed in church and hallways and replaced with vinyl tile (hallways) and wood (church), pews were removed and replaced with chairs which increased seating capacity to 240.

2003 – March                Thrift Shop moves to Marion Crossing Mall on CR 484

2003 – May                   Parish Center dedicated to Nick/Rita Lauer and Sanctuary to Fred/Teri Bigl

2004 – February (?)      Candles in St. Jude Shrine area converted to two electric candle stands.

2004 – August 15          Electric memorial candles may be purchased to burn for one year.

2004- December           Stained glass installed in reconciliation room door.

2005 – October             Fr. Vicente Panaligan appointed as Parochial Vicar.

2006 – January             Thrift Shop closes – lost lease in Marion Crossing

2007 – March                Parish Center now being used as the church. Old church is now the Parish Hall.

2007 – August              Fr. Panaligan transferred and Fr. Rodolfo Ramon appointed Parochial Vicar

2007 – September         New CCD schedule – 8:45 AM-9:45 AM and 11:15 AM – 12:15 PM

2009 – May                   Fr. Anthony Palmese retires.

2009 – June                  Fr. Lemier Guillaume appointed Parochial Administrator, Fr. Rodolfo Ramon transferred

2010 – June                 Fr. Guillaume resigns and Fr. Palmese returns as temporary Administrator

2010 – September         Fr. Barthelemy Garçon appointed Parochial Administrator

2015 – November          Sanctuary wall of Church refurbished with paintings provided by artist Margaret Watts.

2015 – November          Chairs refurbished with new backs and seats.
